AEC Fluid Couplings

Description

ABS Fluid Couplings operate based on the kinetic energy of a fluid, facilitating smooth power transmission between shafts. Each coupling shaft is rigidly connected to an impeller, and a fluid circulates between them. The driver impeller generates greater kinetic energy in the fluid compared to the driven impeller. The torque transmitted by the coupling is directly proportional to the speed difference, or slip, between the impellers.

Once the coupling engages, the relative slip typically remains within a range of 1.5% to 6.0%. The slip percentage in a hydrodynamic coupling is calculated as 100×(n1 – n2)/n1, where n1 and n2 are the rotational speeds of the driver and driven impellers, respectively.

Key features

  • Fluid-Based Transmission: Utilizes the kinetic energy of a fluid to transmit torque between impellers.
  • Slip Control: The transmitted torque is proportional to the speed difference (slip) between the impellers.
  • Efficiency: Slip remains within a controlled range of 1.5% to 6% after engagement.
  • No Mechanical Contact: Torque transmission occurs without direct mechanical contact, reducing wear and tear on components.

Industrial applicatioms

  • Heavy-Duty Machinery: Ideal for mining, steel, and cement industries where smooth torque transmission is required.
  • High-Load Systems: Suitable for systems requiring soft starts or overload protection, preventing shock loads during startup.
  • Variable Speed Applications: Perfect for equipment where load variations occur and speed control is essential.
